Edward gave his occupation as farm hand and his next of kin his mother Mrs J McKenna of Kenneth St Longueville, Sydney when he enlisted 26 May 1915 at Liverpool NSW.

Edward served in the 55th Battalion A.I.F. He departed Sydney 14 July 1915 on H.M.A.T. Orsova A67 and arrived Anzac Cove with the 3rd battalion reinforcements and transferred to 55th battalion.

He arrived France 29 June 1916. Edward was company cook at the time of his death on 13 July 1916. A fragment of shell struck him in the eye. He died instantly.

Private Edward Francis MCKENNA was killed in action at Fleurbaix France age 20.
